Frequently Asked Questions
Q Do I need a licensed
locksmith?
Yes. The state of California requires
all locksmiths to be licensed by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services
BSIS. Jobs over $500 also require a license with the Contractors State
License Board CSLB. The locksmith should also have the proper liability
insurance for the service they are providing i.e. auto lockouts or commercial
building service. Any individual with a felony will not be issued a locksmith
license from the BSIS.
Q I called another
locksmith and they ruined my lock.
This is not a question, but is a common
occurrence. There are "locksmith" ads on the Internet with people who respond
to a call that are not licensed or have any formal training. Their goal is to
quote low on the phone and charge as much as they can when they arrive;
typically leaving a disaster behind. Our technicians know hardware and will
provide the best solution to correct what they left behind.
Q What should I lubricate
my house lock with?
Our service area being damp and salty
can cause problems with locks quickly. We have found the Teflon based
lubricants work best such as Tri-Flow. We sell the product and it is available
at most bicycle shops.
